Every group has its own house rules, and PokerNite doesn't try to talk you out of them. Buy-ins are just amounts you log whenever they happen, so rebuys, add-ons, and a late arrival who wants in for half all record the same way. None of that changes between a tournament and a cash game. And if your group would rather not have winnings up in front of everyone, you switch that off for the whole club and the rest keeps working.
On the tournament side, the clock works out the entry count, the rebuys, the average stack, and the prize list from what you've logged, and every one of those can be typed over by hand when the night goes sideways. Overriding what's on the TV never touches the money records underneath. Seasons are the same idea: nine scoring rules you can combine however you want, each counting for tournaments, cash games, or both.
Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. One poker club is free, and nothing inside it is throttled: run as many sessions as you want, add as many players as you want, and use the tournament timer for all of them. Premium is $7.99 CAD a month, for hosts who want more than that, like running multiple clubs, season standings with point rules and leaderboards, auto-generated tournament payouts, club accounting, and balances that follow players from one night to the next. You don't need a card to sign up, and the free club stays free.
Does PokerNite handle the money?
No. PokerNite tracks the buy-ins, the payouts, and who owes who, but the actual cash and e-transfers stay between you and your players exactly like they do now. The only money that ever moves through the site is a Premium subscription. This is built for private home games where the whole pot goes back to the table.
Do the other players at my table need accounts?
No, and they never will. Your players are just names you add to your club, so nobody has to sign up, download anything, or even own a smartphone for you to run the night. If they want to see how it all shook out, every session has a link you can send around afterward.
Is this still being worked on?
Yes. I run my own game on PokerNite every month, so anything that annoys me on a poker night tends to get fixed pretty quickly. If PokerNite doesn't do something your game needs, email admin@pokernite.app and tell me about it, because that is genuinely how most of what's here got added.
Who makes PokerNite?
I'm Gibson, and I've been into poker since I was about 10, watching my parents host a weekly game with their friends. I've carried that on with my own group and host a monthly game now. I lead a software development team for a living, so this is where the job and the hobby meet: I got tired of running my league out of a spreadsheet and a separate timer app, and built the thing I actually wanted instead.
